The span from February to April emerges as the quintessential period for the germination of such species as polyanthus, acaulis, and auricula. Although a modicum of frost may aid in the germination process, it’s advisable to postpone sowing on particularly arduous soils until the advent of March or April.
Sowing prior to the termination of May paves the way for the blossoming of flowers in the subsequent vernal season. In cases of necessity, extending sowing to the conclusion of July is feasible, provided the seeds are maintained in a state of cool hydration.
Selecting an apt compost is critical. Given the heightened sensitivity of primula plants to fertilizers, which are rife with copious mineral salts, caution is paramount. An overly potent mixture could either inhibit growth entirely or precipitate the demise of fledgling roots. Always opt for seed compost, favoring those mixtures that are rich in fiber and have a coarse texture.
